National Governance Summit 2025

National Governance Summit 2025 The National Governance Summit 2025, held on April 19 in Lazimpat, Kathmandu, brought together 175 policymakers, governance experts, civil society leaders, youth representatives, and development partners for a high-level dialogue on strengthening Nepal’s democratic journey. Organized by the Good Governance Protection Forum (GGPF) with the support of the dZi Foundation, the summit explored three transformative themes—citizen participation and inclusive governance, public service transformation, and sustainable development with policy reform. Discussions highlighted the urgent need to close representation gaps, rebuild public trust, and bridge the digital divide; to innovate and expand digital governance for equitable service delivery across rural and urban areas; and to align national and local policies with climate resilience and youth employment priorities. Despite political progress, Nepal continues to face persistent governance challenges, including a Corruption Index score of 34/100 (ranked 107 out of 180 countries, Transparency International 2024) and a Human Development Index position of 146 globally (UNDP 2024). The summit recommended institutionalizing citizen engagement frameworks, transforming public services through innovation and public–private partnerships, and accelerating SDG-linked reforms, particularly those connected with SDG 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions. By implementing these strategies, Nepal can strengthen trust in public institutions, improve service delivery, and promote inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development.
